Earth Education... A New Beginning, by Steve Van Matre, was originally published in 1990. At that time it represented over 20 years of experience in and observation about the state of the field of environmental education -- how it went astray and what needed to be done to address the problems.

Now, over 10 years after its first release, we believe the message of Earth Education... A New Beginning is more important than ever.

The Institute for Earth Education (I•E•E) has decided to make a portion of the book available for free on this web site. It is our hope that these excerpts will inspire a new generation of educators to follow The Earth Education Path and begin implementing earth education programs -- programs that help others learn to live more lightly upon the earth.

This on-line edition of Earth Education... A New Beginning contains the complete Table Of Contents from the printed edition. You will also find a generous selection of excerpts from every chapter, plus numerous tables and interactive quizzes.

We apologize in advance for not being able to offer the entire contents of the printed edition on-line (it is over 325 pages long). And, frankly, the revenue generated from sales of Earth Education... A New Beginning is an important component of financial support for I•E•E. We have never received any government, foundation or industry funding. I•E•E is supported solely by volunteers, memberships and our educational material sales.
